The Steez Gallery Presents: Sam Paolini

The Steez Gallery Presents: Sam Paolini

Sam Paolini presents her colorful abstract and mixed media works from December 2011 to March 2012 with an opening reception of Friday, December 9th, from 6-8 PM.

The Steez Gallery, located at 85 W Pearl St in Nashua, NH, has intended to bring new artwork to light with their choices of alternative artwork to compliment their highly sculptural glass pieces. In the month of December through March, Sam Paolini will be exhibiting her saturated, eclectic works, including her latest "mask" series.

Sam Paolini is a visual artist, illustrator, baker, and seacoast NH native. Most recently, the mask images have presented themselves as disguises, protectors, shame, celebration, escapes and hiding places. While the art may be dream(or nightmare)-like, abstract or nonsensical, a personal goal is to make art objects that are affordable, accessible and functional; such as clothing, bags, prints, posters, pins and coloring books.

Recent projects by Sam Paolini include illustrating Dream Detectives, a children’s book written by Jon Kiper; posters, clothing and album covers for local and national bands such as Comma, Tera Melos, Gnarlemagne, the Aaron Lee Marshall Band, People Skills, and B.A. Canning; functional and wearable textile design with mother Laurie Paolini as Arthouse Collaborations; and teaching kids at Main Street Art in Newfields, NH.

Opening reception will be Friday, December 9th from 6 to 8 PM with special guest musical acts Chelsea Paolini and DjAngo!

Throughout December 2011, The Steez Gallery will take 25% off anything under $100! This is a GREAT stocking stuffer deal! Hope to see you soon!

The Steez Gallery Presents: Deshevski

The Steez Gallery, located at 85 W Pearl St in Nashua, NH, has intended to bring new artwork to light with their choices of alternative artwork and work with new and upcoming artists. In the month of November, Deshevski will be exhibiting her abstract artworks for a benefit to the American Cancer Society.

Deshevski's works are abstract and modern, exploring ever growing shapes and colors. The artist's statement reads: "These artworks are  metaphors for life, for security/insecurity,  for the acceptance of life’s travails.  She expresses  danger and loneliness, but  she also expresses acceptance, endurance, and survival; each brushstroke, each depression of her fingers in  clay  a dialog, a conversation with materials to create a whole. This non-objective work synthesizes the  work of the early Modernists and the late Modernists Hoffman to create something new, a textural non-objective artwork."

All artist's profits for Deshevski's pieces will be donated to the American Cancer Society Northeast Division. Direct donations can be mailed to the American Cancer Society, Northeast Devision, Inch. 30 Speen St., PO Box 9376, Framingham, MA.

Dates to look out for!

The Steez Gallery will be participating in ArtWalk Nashua on Saturday, November 5th and Sunday November 6th.

The Steez Gallery will also be participating in the Nashua Holiday Stroll on Saturday, November 26th.

Bring in a can of food for us to donate and you will receive 25% off glass!

Saturday, September 10th, 2011, 5-9pm

Skate competition jam session style, ages 14 and under, then 15 and over. $10 entry, top 3 in each age group get prizes

Art exhibition in the lobby for the skate art.

The event will be put on by Eastern Boarder, Granite Skate, The Steez Gallery, and World Crush Media. There will be limited edition tees and stickers for give aways. This should be a really huge and positive event especially since Eastern Boarder will be involved. This means we will have radio coverage and such. We will be able to get some awesome video coverage and make an interesting compilation video for the event. With this new information, a couple of the dates will change. The date for the actual event is a little sooner than expected. Here are the new dates:

I will need high resolution images if you are interested in having your deck design featured on the promotional flier. This means that I will need a head on photo, at least 300 dpi OR at least 2000 pixels wide or 2000 pixels tall. If you send me a low resolution image, I will not be able to use it. I would like to make sure we have the maximum time to promote for this event, so please send them to me as soon as possible.

The due date for images is: AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! JULY 30TH, 2011.

The due date for label information (name of piece, price of piece, name of artist) is: AUGUST 15TH, 2011.

The drop off dates will be sooner than the exhibition, due to the fact that I want to make sure anyone who can't make it to the dropoff, will make it. The drop off dates will be: AUGUST 22ND, 23RD and 24TH, 2011 AT THE STEEZ GALLERY, 85 W PEARL ST, NASHUA, NH.

I have also enclosed as attachments the label request form and exhibition contract. Please read both of these over. It will be expected that you bring and sign an exhibition contract when you drop your items off.

Please also keep in mind that all artwork must be presented on a deck of some sort. This part is important and I cannot stress it enough. This will make the art event different from most; I find that artwork physically on a skateboard or longboard deck shows a lot of "pop" and is tangible very interesting and feasible.

Please keep in mind that The Steez Gallery, while it is partially an art gallery, is also a high-end smoke shop. If you do not want to be exhibiting next to artistic sculptural glass pipes, please do not show interest in this call to artists notation. While the artwork will not begin by hanging next to sculptural glass pieces, some select decks will end up hanging in the actual Steez Gallery. The Steez Gallery takes 40% commission, so it is a 40/60 split with the artist (The artists gets 60%), so please price your work accordingly. There is currently NO entry fee to show at this venue!

When it comes to getting your artwork on the decks: there are a couple of options for getting your design physically on a skateboard deck. You can physically paint the design on a deck (which is great, as it constitutes an original and can be sold for much more)... Typical blank wooden decks range from $10 to $40, depending on where you get it and the quality of the board (the best place to shop now is online), and the complexity of the design determines its price.

However, the easiest and most cost effective route is going through a printing service such as zazzle.com or boardpusher.com. Boardpusher`s decks are $49.99 printed in full color plus shipping, which leaves you room to sell a deck at $80 with commission included and still turn a little profit. It works by scanning or digitally designing to their specifications, then just uploading it and ordering it.

We do not print any of the designs for you and expect works to already be fully printed or painted/whatnot on the decks by the time of dropoff. The dropoff date will be expected at the end of August/beginning of September. I will, however, need images of the decks with the design on them sometime at the beginning of August for promotional fliers and other promotional needs.

You can submit as many decks as you want... Ranging from 1 to 20. It is up to you what you can afford to show. Please! This venue is going to be HUGE! Granite Skate is the New England's ONLY 25,000 square foot inside skatepark. So we have a huge amount of space to fill!

If you would like to participate, please email art@thesteezgallery.com ASAP.

Adam D. Curtis Skatepark and Cat Alley

Thought I'd share some of the on goings of mural work in Manchester!

Cat Alley Mural

This recent renovation of Manchester's famous downtown Cat Alley, or Dean Avenue, was a long time in the making. Cat alley is located across the street from XO on Elm, just past Lala's Hungarian Pastry. Other artists (besides myself) include: Peg Lipin, Bill Earnshaw, Brian Lapree, Noonan, Cindy O'Rourke, Dee Christensen, Kaitlin Gould, Brianna Gould, Caroline Chavette, Emily Drouin, Alex Mathieu, and Anita Huddlestun.

Adam D. Curtis Skatepark Mural

The recent beautification of the Adam D. Curtis skatepark was taken on by the Eagle Eyes crew. Many artists got together and painted positive graffiti murals on previously vandalized areas of the skate park. The project continues to grow to other vandalized areas of the park. The Adam D. Curtis Skatepark is located on South Maple street, just across the street from the JFK Colliseum.

85 W Pearl St, Nashua, NH
Come join us for the grand re-opening at The Steez Gallery on 4/20/2011! We will be a hosting a salon style showing of artwork.

Sammy Johnson
Alex Brizicky
Jason Shulkin

Kaitlyn Chapman
Aimee Cozza
