Call to Artists

Call to Artists

@ The Coffee Factory, Derry, NH
Exhibit dates: the month of February
Deadline to respond: December 20th, 2010
...
I am looking for artists willing to exhibit their artwork in the space in The Coffee Factory in Derry, NH. Any and all artists are welcome as long as I have seen and approved the artwork, though you will need to bring your own means of display if you have three-dimensional works.

I am looking to have, at maximum, about 10 artists display and sell artwork. The space is 8' high by 28' long. We can have a reception with a lot of artwork, but will be limited in the amount we can leave hanging and sell for the entire month. The owners of the space do NOT charge commission or charge for the space and are more than willing to open the space to us and have an event. You are responsible for hanging your own art. That means you must bring your own hammer, nails, picture hangers, labels, etc.

The owners also want to know if we are intending to do this event as soon as possible so they can put ads out in local papers about the upcoming event.

If you are interested, send a comment to me with your name, type of art, and at least three samples of your artwork.

Meet the Artists

Debbie Curtin of Londonderry NH is showcasing a mixed assortment of art style and use of water media. From representative work to more suggestive images, water is the medium that gives these pieces a distinctive range. The monoprints are what the name implies, one print. Using household objects and random choices the acrylic paint is moved and manipulated until the desired pattern is achieved. A precut mat is used to assess the final design from the pattern and that ultimately becomes the final framed image.

NHIA Artists
Kara Holbert (coordinator of the part of the exhibit) is a painter at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She also has experience in traditional and digital illustration. Her new work will be exhibited in the NHIA in the Spring of 2010 and 2011. Kara is the coordinator who pulled all the artwork together of other NHIA students.
Matt Smigiel attends NHIA as an illustrator/cartoonist and has had work featured in CT newspapers as well as in posters for numerous bands and CD's from CT to CA.
Sarabeth Graziano is an artist from Manchester, NH currently focused on photographing the 'found object'... capturing scenes, places, and things in their natural environment, and depicting them in different ways and composition. Her goal is to show the world that everything, and anything, can be beautiful, if you look at it from the right perspective.
Michelle Turgeon attends NHIA, and is a third year Illustration major. “A few summers ago I decided I was going to experiment with different mediums. I bought brushes and colored inks, but by the time I got to the paper I had no idea what to make so I just started inking lines, and then it turned into my “Red Inked Flowers”. A Happy Accident would have been a more appropriate name for the piece.
Corina Willette attends NHIA and is currently painting in oils. The artist says: "Painting is fun work!"
Aimee Cozza attends the NHIA for Illustration and is mainly a digital artist but constantly works with mixed media. She enjoys creating pensive self-explorative and environmentally explorative pieces.Brad Turgeon attends NHIA as an illustrator who works digitally. He also has an extensive background in the area of graphic design.
Ashley McCarty is an upcoming graduate from NHIA with a concentration in Illustration. Her work is mostly driven by her love for feminine aesthetics and patterning. She has worked on projects for the community such as the 2009 Boy Scouts of America; Moose Parade, where she painted large fiber glass moose. Look for her work at the NHIA 2010 annual exhibition beginning 5/16/2010!

January 2010 Project Exposure Artist Interview

Aimee Cozza is living proof that time is in fact relative. If I told you that Aimee has collaborated on and published an amazing three part three issue comic series; Has completed and published a couple graphic novels of her own; Has been featured in and helped publish a couple books of poetry; Collaborated on and published yet another comic; Published a collection of her traditional art works; That she has also created design pieces for commercial work, such as business cards, logos, watermarks, websites, promotional flyers, and promotional posters; That she has colored pages, covers, and pin-ups for other graphic novels or compilations. Would you make the assumption that she is well into her career as an artist? Would you assume that she must be in her late thirties? I think you would.
